Worshipping In Truth

“Yet a time is coming and has not come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

What is truth? By definition truth is: in reality, in fact, actually. Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way the truth and the life.” Jesus also said in John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” In the Greek the word ‘sanctify’ is hagiazo meaning set apart for sacred us or make holy. 1 Peter 1:14-16 says, “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘be holy, because I am holy’.”

Have you ever wondered why your church service is formatted the way that it is? In most churches we come in, sing songs, hear the word of God preached, have a time to give our tithes and offerings and there is always a time of prayer. God calls us to have order when we gather and in order to worship in truth we need these different acts of worship.

We are to worship even when we don’t feel like it. The truth will set us free! If you look at David who was called a man after God’s own heart, that true worship recognizes the desperate reality of our present circumstances, yet he focuses on the one who is greater. Have you ever not wanted to worship? You woke up grumpy and didn’t want to go to church, but you went anyways and despite your mood when the music began, you began to sing and the more you entered into worshipping God, your attitude started to change. The words in the songs began to speak to you as if God were singing them to you! Because He is!
